JV volleyball team swings to win over Elkhorn South

The Pius X JV volleyball team beat the Elkhorn South JV team 2-1 on Saturday, Oct.12.

Starting strong, Pius X led 25-18 in the first set. Pius X was leading with confidence and had quick feet and reflexes to get to the ball.

“When we play with confidence and make good passes, we keep it a lot easier for ourselves,” head coach Katie Wenz said.

In the second set however, it was a tough loss 24-26. Many tough, long rallies were encountered during the play.

Although they lost the second set, the third set played out in their favor and Pius X won the game.

“We passed much better the third set,” Wenz said. “We also did not hesitate to swing, and we avoided tipping, so it made it a lot harder for them to be aggressive to us.”

Pius X pulled themselves together with better serving and played with more aggression.

“We had good defense and setter connection,” junior Piper Overman said. “We adjusted to what our coaches were saying and what shots to hit.”

In the last set you could see improvements in the players’ swings.

“We did well, fought hard, and quit tipping the ball,” freshman Ofeleia Ramirez-Rousseau said.
