Senior David Hatt won first place at Nebraska State Dive on Feb. 22.
This is Hatt’s second time winning gold, having won the championship his junior year as well.
Hatt sustained an ankle injury just two weeks before state, which at first caused concern because he didn’t know if it was broken or not.
After finding out it was only a sprain, he did everything he could to heal as quickly as possible.
Even with the sprain, he continued to push through the pain and do his best.
Hatt said his biggest support has been his mom.
“She’s been my coach all four years,” he said. “I’m really grateful for everything she’s done for me.”
Senior teammate Caroline Novosad placed 10th at state and has enjoyed her time diving and all the friendships she’s made.
“I’m proud of David for getting first at state his junior and senior year because he had a lot of competition,” Novosad said. “He was able to overcome all the pressure and come out number one.”
Hatt has been extremely appreciative for all of the opportunities he’s had and the people he has gotten to meet along the way.
