The Pius X girls soccer team finished as the NSAA Class A state runner-up on Monday, May 10.
The team faced off against the Lincoln Southwest Silverhawks in the state championship.

During the game, senior Grace Diederich scored a goal which helped the Thunderbolts lead for most of the game 1-0.
“Having Grace score was huge, I really helped us have an advantage,” sophomore Kate Miller said.
With 43 seconds left in the second half, a foul was called, and Southwest was given a free kick.
The game was tied 1-1 and was going into overtime.
“I was determined during overtime, I really wanted to win,” Dickinson said.
During overtime, neither team scored, and the game went into a penalty kick shootout.
“I was really excited to get in the goal, and I thought ‘If I can help my team, this is how,’” Miller said.
The Lincoln Southwest Silverhawks won the game, after blocking a final goal.
“When we lost, I was devastated, but I was also so proud of how far we had made it, and I know next year will be our year,” sophomore Chloe Kolm said.
Although the Thunderbolts lost, the overall support from the students was so positive and inspiring.
“I loved going to the game. It was so fun cheering on these girls and supporting my friends,” junior Lucy Ring said.
