Freshman football beats East

On Saturday, September 27 the freshman football team beat the Lincoln East freshman football team 28-7.

Matthew Sestak is the head freshman coach and has been for two years. Sestak has seen great improvement this year.

Sestak stated, “I think there has been vast improvements with the guys both in terms of schematics, what we want to do offensively and defensively, and in their overall mentality, always positive, always accountable.”

The game against East was a long one.

Neither Pius X nor Lincoln East scored in the first quarter, but Pius X scored in both the second and third quarters.

During the fourth quarter, Pius X scored twice. But with 15 seconds left, East scored, making the final score 28-7.

As the clock ran out, Pius X rejoiced in their win.

Sestak said, “Winning’s great, it’s rewarding to see the players do the little things and doing all those little things correctly adding up to a win.”

Freshman Carter Peck played during the game.

“My motivation was to beat East rivals,” Peck said. “I feel really good about winning. It was a tough game. They were good opponents, and we turned up and we came out ready to win.”

Motivation really helped Pius X win the game.

Another freshman player is Braxton Schmid.

Schmid said, “My motivation was just move onto the next play, even if you mess up just keep going.”

Schmid was also pretty excited about winning.

“It feels pretty good,” Schmid said. “We’ve gotten a two-win streak going on, hopefully we can keep that up.”
