The Pius X freshman boys basketball team beat Lincoln Lutheran 46-29 on January 10.
During the first quarter, neither team scored many points and they stayed neck and neck until the end of the quarter when Pius X pulled ahead thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by freshman Antonio Rodriguez, making the score 13-7 Pius X.
The second and third quarters saw Pius X continuing to lengthen the gap between their scores, with Pius X gaining 26 points and Lincoln Lutheran gaining 15 points, making the score 39-22 Pius X by the end of the third quarter.
“We did really good on running the court and getting to the other side and scoring,” freshman player Zachary Barnes said.
Despite Lincoln Lutheran’s attempts to close the gap, Pius X continued to widen it into the final buzzer, giving Pius X the victory 46-29.
“Overall, I think we played decent,” Rodriguez said. “But we definitely could have played a lot better.”
