Pius X allowed a full student section at a football game for the first time in almost two years Friday night.
The Thunderbolts squared off against the Grand Island Islanders in their first home game of the season.
Pius X did not allow a full student section last season because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Students were very pleased with a full student section.
“Football brings everyone together, and it doesn’t matter who you are, you can have a great time,” senior Addie Drahota said.
It was not just the fans who enjoyed the full stands, but players appreciated it as well.
“Having fans helps improve our gameplay because they help keep the energy up especially when we start to get down on ourselves,” senior lineman Cody Kumke said.
Pius X fell to the Islanders 28-14.
Pius X’s next game will be against Lincoln High on September 10 while their next home game will be against Gretna on September 17.
