Pius X hosted their first international celebration on April 6.
There were three groups that performed, a group from Mexico, a group from Vietnam, and a group from South Africa.
“I was impressed by all the student and community members there,” Spanish teacher Tracy Chapelle said.
The celebration first started with a Mass said by Fr. Dominic Winter.
“Mr. Kirkwood picked me to say Mass because I am the assistant pastor at Cristo Rey,” Winter said.
Winter’s main message was that everyone is made for Jesus.
“My homily’s message was to make sure everyone knew how universal the church is and that the cross is an international stage for the faith,” Winter said.
Following the Mass, there were three different group performances.
“My favorite group was the lion dancers because I liked the music that they played and the diversity the group had,” junior Elaine Ho said.
All three groups brought traditional food from their country.
“I really liked the egg rolls from the lion dancers, they were really delicious,” junior Grace Bousquet said.
This event showcased cultures in a religious and fun way.
