As the Academic Decathlon team prepares for nationals, the next theme has been announced for the upcoming year. The theme will be “The Roaring Twenties,” and the book will be “The Great Gatsby.”
“The roaring 20s has always been a part of American history that I think we can all learn from, and I can’t wait to just dive deeper into that this next year,” junior Regina Jordan said.
Jordan has been a part of the Academic Decathlon for two years. She believes this upcoming year will be very promising.
“I think on a team standpoint we have a whole lot of potential and because the topic this next year is going to be so engaging, I have high expectations for it and I just know it’s going to go well,” Jordan said.
Another person who is excited for the theme is Ann Kotopka who will be the head coach next year.
“This one will be very exciting because it was a very exciting, in a way, happy, but also troubling time in our country,” Kotopka said. “But the theme itself is going to be amazing.”
Kotopka has started to plan for the theme.
“I just have so much energy and excitement and I’ve already started lesson planning for ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ideas for things that I want to do,” Kotopka said.
Freshman Thérèse Murray did not join the team this year but will join it in the upcoming year. She is interested in the theme.
“I do not know much about the theme but from what I can tell it might be interesting,” Murray said.
