Marching band hosts season-opening exhibition

The Pius X marching band hosted their exhibition on Sept. 21 where they performed and were critiqued along with three other schools.

This year’s show theme is “David and Goliath” where they play “Call of Goliath,” “David’s Prayer” and “Battle of the Valley,” all written by John Kosch.

“It’s cool to do an original show, especially since it’s written by one of our directors,” junior drum major Matilda Hayes said.

Overall the theme has been well liked by most of the students.

“It’s perfect for the band we have right now,” senior Arianna Nagengast said. “We’re able to express our faith and doing that through music really shows that.”

This is the band’s second time performing their whole show in front of an audience, the first being at the homecoming football game.

They hosted this exhibition for marching bands from Lincoln Southwest, Lincoln Standing Bear and Norris.

The bands individually played their shows in front of an audience and multiple judges, and then stayed on the field where they were critiqued by the judges afterward.

While the bands don’t receive an official scoring, they do get feedback to help them improve for competitions in the future.

The Pius X marching band is performing at three competitions this year on Oct. 12, 19 and 26.

“Within the next couple of weeks we’ve got a lot of work to do, but I think there’s a lot of good growth happening,” senior Dominic Tran said.
