The members of the Latinos Unidos Club made an ofrenda to celebrate Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead.
“The students in the club made all of the flowers, they brought pictures of their loved ones, and then we just set up the display,” Spanish teacher Brock Nutter said.
The ofrenda was set up just inside the main entrance in front of the office, for students and faculty to see as they walk into the school.
“The ofrenda is something that we do to celebrate the dead,” Latinos Unidos president Samy Springer said. “To remember that they are still with us even if it’s just in our hearts. We try not to forget them and honor them.”
But the ofrenda isn’t the only thing that members of Latinos Unidos Club do. They meet every Wednesday to learn dances, try different food and so much more.
“Latinos Unidos is a club where we just like to embrace our culture and learn more about other Hispanic cultures to deepen our knowledge of what we grew up with and just embrace our roots,” Springer said.
