Freshmen take standardized tests

The freshmen came to school to take standardized tests on Monday, Mar. 10 and Tuesday, Mar. 11.

The tests are able to tell teachers and staff what the students know about different subjects.

“These tests really help us to know where you guys are at and what your knowledge is of certain skills,” study hall teacher Michaelle McCullough said.

The main job of the proctors is to say the all the instructions of the tests as specified for the standardized tests.

“We come in and there’s a proctor’s testing booklet,” McCullough said. “We read word for word the instructions to the students.”

The first day proctors had a few more jobs.

“Some of their responsibilities are getting students on a seating chart in alphabetical order, making sure students are filling in the test booklets in the correct places, and answering questions,” McCullough said.

Freshman Maddie Schinstock doesn’t mind the tests because it is easier than doing schoolwork.

“I honestly enjoy testing because it is not too difficult and it gives us a short break from school,” Schinstock said.

Schinstock felt that the tests weren’t really helpful for school.

“I don’t think the tests necessarily help me with school because I don’t learn from them, I just show what I already know,” Schinstock said.

Freshman Lexi Pomajzl liked the breaks the best and felt that the reading tests were easier than the others.

“My favorite part were the 10-minute breaks, and the reading sections were easy,” Pomajzl said.
