When Karmi Munford was six, she competed in her first dance competition and won first place. When asked what her name was, she couldn’t speak because she was so excited about winning.
Karmi transferred to Pius X for her senior year, and she has enjoyed making new friends. Many students enjoy the bright light she has become for the Pius X family.
“Karmi is making Pius better because she is a very bright person, who is nice and brings people up,” senior Annie Micek said.
Karmi is a member of the Pius X Thunderettes dance team. They perform at pep rallies, home games, and compete every year at state.
“My favorite part of Thunderettes are the relationships I’ve built,” Munford stated.
As a senior on the dance team, Karmi’s role is to help people and make sure everyone is doing the best they can. She has become a role model to the other dancers on the team.
“Karmi is so good at dancing, she gives advice, and is so sweet to everyone,” freshman Elise Tassemeyer said.
Karmi has been dancing for 15 years since the age of 3. She has been trained in ballet, tap, contemporary, jazz and a little bit of everything. Her dancing is inspired by her mom, who helped Karmi start her dancing journey before she passed.
“My favorite dance style is contemporary because you get to express your emotions through dance, which has always been hard for me to do with my words,” Munford said.
Karmi chose to come to Pius X because of the friends she already had here. Before Pius X she attended East and did school online. Outside of Pius Karmi is a part of diving, she has been diving since she was eight.
Karmi is excited for her senior year here at Pius X.
“I am so open to conversations with anyone, and am excited to get to know people,” Munford said. “I really love making new friends and building new relationships.”
