The Honor Guard meets every Wednesday in the chapel at Pius X.
The Honor Guard cleans the chapel. It is an unseen but important part of our school. They keep the chapel in order.
“Cleaning the chapel during Honor Guard helps me feel closer to Christ because we are taking pride in his house,” senior Brandon Sumner said.
Keeping the chapel clean helps to keep things going smoothly during Mass.
“I appreciate that the Honor Guard keeps the chapel clean, because it helps me to stay focused during class Mass,” senior Grace Langdon said.
The Honor Guard starts every club with evening prayer.
“Evening prayer is not a well-known prayer, but it is my favorite,” senior Cora Halverson stated.
After praying together, the club goes into the chapel and does small tasks to keep the chapel clean. These tasks include straightening the books and dusting the confessionals.
“I love straightening books because it looks so organized when it’s done,” Sumner said.
The club concludes with a snack and fellowship. The club enjoys getting to hang out with chaplain Fr. Joseph Bernardo and tell him what is going on in their lives.
“Fr. Bernardo makes Honor Guard interesting and fun for everyone,” Halverson said.
Everyone is encouraged to come and try out the club.
“Everyone should come to the club because it is a good way to make new friends and grow closer to the Lord,” Sumner said.
Keeping the chapel clean is no small task, and many people are grateful for the club’s hard work.
“The people who clean the chapel are hidden heroes,” Langdon said. “Though their work is not well known, it is incredibly important.”
