Prism places first in their category at The Rock competition

Pius X’s treble show choir, Prism, took part in The Rock show choir competition and ended up getting first place in their division.

The competition took place at Lincoln Northeast on Saturday, Mar. 1.

“I think we did really well, I think it was our best one that we’ve done so far,” sophomore Gisella Rutledge said.

Prism is a treble show choir because it only consists of girls. There are 44 girls in it and it is directed by Edgar Estrada and Ian Mitchell.

“I like it because it just lets me be more creative and have fun,” sophomore Gemma Johnson said. “When I go there it is always just so fun and I can just not worry about other things.”

Prism’s theme is “It’s my birthday.” Freshman Kennedy McCarville played the birthday girl, Charlotte.

“It just feels so special and I get to interact with everyone the whole time. It is really fun,” McCarville said.

The show lasted around 15 minutes, and it included four songs, two of them being medleys.

“My favorite song is ‘Call Me Maybe,’” Rutledge said. “It is my favorite song because I have known it all my life and getting to perform it is really fun to do. There is fun choreography with it.”

Prism has competed in four competitions and will compete in one more.

“It is a very fun environment and everybody is so nice,” Rutledge said. “It is really fun to show off the work you have put in.”
