On October 26th, Pius X held “Pius Got Talent”, a talent show where students showed off their singing and instrumental skills.
Held in the L-PAC, the students were able to perform solo, in a duo, or in bands.
Some students performed only instrumental pieces with guitars or pianos, while others, such as junior Emma Asmus, sang to songs of their choosing.
Asmus sang to “The Story” by Brandi Carlile, she chose it because of how meaningful it has been to her over the years.
“I knew this song since I was like seven….” Asmus recalled when thinking of how long she’s been practicing for. “I guess in the recent months I’ve just perfected it.”
For some, getting on stage in front of a crowd seems terrifying, performers must face this fear to be able to do their best.
For senior Jadyn Dodd, his nerves are present until he starts singing, he then becomes more at ease and the nerves go away.
However, for Dodd’s specific song, “Colder Weather” by Zac Brown Band, more nerves than normal began to appear.
“It’s the highest I’ve ever sung in a solo before, I had some nerves backstage,” Dodd admitted.
While these new nerves caused Dodd some worry off stage, he easily calmed down once he began to sing as usual.
Vocal groups such as AcaBellas and AcaFellas performed during the show. Both groups meet outside of classes and consist of any student who enjoys singing.
The band “Last Minute Decisions”, formed by five Pius X students, also performed their new song, “Heartbreak Station” at the very end of the show.
The band consists of: Tatum Maley, Luis Tapia, David Hatt, Tristan Brouillette and Dominic Tran.
Pius Got Talent was a way for students to show their classmates and parents a glimpse of their personal abilities.
