The Pius X choir department held their fall concert at North American Martyrs church on Oct. 6.
This concert’s theme was “Love conquers all” and included songs like “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us,” “Viva L’Amor” and “He Never Failed Me Yet.”
Six of the choir groups performed: AcaBellas, AcaFellas, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Concert Choir and Sotto Voce.
Each choir has been preparing for the concert since the start of this school year, both in and outside of class.
“I’ve never had such challenging pieces as a choir, and I think it showed a lot about our perseverance,” senior Lydia Koperski said.
Koperski is a part of Sotto Voce, the varsity choir. “Signs of Judgment” was one of Sotto Voce’s pieces, and was very popular among students and those who watched the performance.
“It’s such a powerful song to sing and see people react to,” Koperski said.
For many, like sophomore Nolan Wemhoff, “Songs of Judgement” was a favorite of the concert.
“It takes you through such an emotional roller coaster,” he said.
Wemhoff is in Concert Choir, a level between Men’s and Women’s and Sotto Voce.
The most difficult song for Wemhoff to learn was “Ngothando,” which was sung in Zulu.
“It was kind of hard to understand the sounds of the letters because they’re not the letters we use in English,” he said.
For all of Concert Choir’s songs, each vocal part was sung in groups at the beginning of the year, then later split up and spread out.
This was challenging for some students, forcing them to really memorize their music and not rely on those around them.
While there was much practice put into every song at every concert, it all proved to be fruitful for their performance.
“I love that everyone here wants to be there, we build each other up and it’s a really great community,” Koperski said.
