A shared commitment among staff … and family

For schools, December marks the season of finals—a time for students to showcase what they’ve learned throughout the semester. This period often brings late-night study sessions, hallway discussions about reviews and exams, and varying levels of stress. Yet, in an unexpected way, it also fosters a sense of community. Students often team up with peers, siblings, or parents to review material, forming study groups that not only reinforce learning but also create a network of support. In this way, academia becomes more than just an individual pursuit; it becomes a shared journey.

Academia has long been a bridge for connection, enabling people to share ideas, grow together, and contribute to society’s progress. As Proverbs 2:6 reminds us, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Our teachers embody this wisdom-sharing spirit, working tirelessly to instill knowledge and a love of learning in their students. Many of our educators have pursued advanced degrees or dedicated decades to teaching, exemplifying a deep commitment to lifelong learning. We are truly blessed to have such passionate, dedicated teachers who inspire their students every day.

Personally, I am fortunate to share my love for education with my family. My father-in-law, Mark Masur, and my sister-in-law, Danielle Karre, work at Pius, creating a unique bond that enriches my experience as an educator. Conversations with Mark and Danielle reveal their enthusiasm for helping students thrive, and it’s a privilege to collaborate with them. I have had the privilege of working with Danielle for nine years. She has become someone I can rely on no matter the situation, and I am blessed for that friendship. Although I have only worked with Mark for a year, his dedication to education is a constant reminder of the importance of our work and the life-long impact we can have on students. I am blessed to have my support network surrounding me daily at work. For me, this shared commitment to education fills the halls with an even stronger sense of community.

As finals season approaches, I extend my best wishes to all students. Take a deep breath, study diligently, and believe in your ability to succeed—this is your moment to shine. To their families and support networks, offer encouragement, lend a hand with studying when asked, and remind them that everything will turn out fine. Let’s use this season not only to reflect on knowledge but also to nurture conversations that are fruitful, joyful, and uplifting. Together, as a community, we can make this time of year both meaningful and memorable.
