Pius X had eight students named Borlaug Scholars this year, based on participation in the Nebraska Youth Institute for The World Food Prize. Scholars include Libby Preister, Henry Cunningham, Blair Bergevin, Byrnn Ulrich, Mary Tran, Lucas Newton, Carter Peed and Reece Hacker.
These students wrote a paper about food sustainability in school, and then chose to participate in the event. While there, they presented their papers to a panel of experts and answered questions in small groups with other students from around the state, additionally taking part in immersion activities at East Campus at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln through the College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR).
