Today is the official day the new Opportunity Scholarships Act (LB1402) becomes law! Much work has gone into this effort, building on the success of LB 753 from the 2023 session.
Pius X has 44 students already receiving aid from Opportunity Scholarships Nebraska (OSN) to attend our school this upcoming year. There are still more students and families who need assistance to afford our school.
There are two key ways people can help:
1 – Businesses and individuals can take advantage of the tax credit to help all the students seeking tuition assistance. To fully fund all the Pius X students hoping to receive OSN scholarships for this school year, at least $100,000 in additional contributions are needed. 2 – Be aware that the repeal of the Opportunity Scholarship Act is very likely to be on the ballot this November.
OSN, an official aid granting organization that has partnered with the Diocese of Lincoln, says on its website: “This transformative program enables students from lower-income families, students with special needs, students who experience bullying, students from military families, students in foster care, and students who are denied option enrollment by public schools to access scholarships to attend the private school of their choice.”
