Korta officially named CAO of Pius X

Bishop James Conley has appointed Mr. Tom Korta as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Pius X High School in Lincoln, effective Feb. 1.

Interim CAO since June, Korta has been principal at Pius since 2006. After teaching in Colorado, he moved to Lincoln in 1994 and taught math at Pius for five years and was an assistant principal for seven years. He also served as technology coordinator and coached boys soccer and girls softball.

Korta received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education in mathematics from the University of Minnesota, his master’s degree in educational administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and is pursuing his doctorate degree in Catholic educational leadership from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

“Mr. Tom Korta has spent much of his career at Pius X High School as both a teacher and administrator,” said Bishop James Conley. “As Tom assumes the role of Chief Administrative Officer, he brings proven leadership skills and a wealth of experience in Catholic education. Tom is a faithful Catholic layman, and I have complete confidence in him that he will help Pius X High School live out its motto ‘to restore all things in Christ.’”

This school year, Pius X is celebrating its 65th anniversary. The state of Nebraska’s largest co-ed Catholic high school, Pius X serves approximately 1,100 students in grades 9-12 with 130 employees and 73 teachers. The school is financially supported by 18 parishes.

Pius X serves a diverse group of students, including 22.3% who have a minority ethnicity/race background, 6.5% with disabilities, and 8.4% enrolled in ABLE learning assistance classes. Nearly all students receive financial assistance; average tuition and fees ($2,966/student) are 45% of the actual cost per student ($6,590). In addition to these tuition subsidy scholarships, more than $515,000 in additional scholarships were awarded in 2020-21, including more than $157,000 in COVID tuition relief funds for families in need.
