Counting M&Ms a colorful stats lesson

Here’s a class assignment where eating the ‘homework’ is encouraged (just not by your dog)!

Students in Brianna Olson’s AP Stats class were given a bag of plain M&Ms to sort and count by color. They added up their observed data  to compare with the expected data based on what Mars (the company that makes M&Ms) says to expect.

While each bag may not add up to the exact specifications, the students will analyze the entire class’ observed data, as well. This data will be used for lessons throughout this Stats unit, even if the candy didn’t make it past dismissal.
