Msgr. Dawson devoted life to priesthood, Catholic education

Msgr. James D. DawsonMonsignor James Dawson, former superintendent of Pius X High School and long-time supporter of Catholic education, passed away earlier this week at the age of 90.

During Msgr. Dawson’s tenure as superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Lincoln, he oversaw the addition of several new schools, including:

  • North American Martyrs,
  • St. Joseph’s,
  • St. Peter’s, and
  • Villa Marie School (a boarding school for children with disabilities).

Msgr. Dawson’s service in the priesthood for more than 65 years also included many other Diocesan leadership roles such as Vicar General of the Lincoln Diocese, Diocesan Consultor, Diocesan Director of the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Diocesan Director of the Bureau of Information, and Board of Directors of the Diocesan Housing Ministries, Inc.

He his honored with a named scholarship at Pius X, and in 2016 was named a Distinguished Steward at Pius X. In 2019, the school opened the Msgr. James D. Dawson Learning Center in tribute to his lifetime of dedication to Pius X and Catholic education.

The faculty, staff and administration at Pius X lift up Msgr. Dawson in our prayers, along with his family and friends.
