Chief Administrative Officer Tom Korta announced today that Tim Aylward will serve as an interim Activities Director for the 2024-25 school year. The move gives the school time to continue its search for a long-term AD.
Aylward is no stranger to Pius X High School. A member of the school’s class of 1969, Aylward returned to the school for the 1985-86 school year as a physical education teacher and head football coach. He continued to coach football even after being named AD in 2009, before finally handing the reins over to current coach Ryan Kearney in 2015. Aylward retired from the AD position in spring of 2020. He was inducted into the Pius X Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017 and into the state high school sports hall of fame in 2021.
Korta said he has been pleased with the quality of applicants and interviews they have conducted so far, but they have yet to find the candidate that “checks all of their boxes,” he said. “We are looking for a proven leader who embraces our mission as a Catholic school, understands the role of sport and extra-curricular activity in the development of the whole person, and will continue our long tradition of excellence in all we do.”
Korta approached Aylward about serving as an interim AD and Aylward immediately agreed.
“This is an opportunity to serve the student-athletes and coaches,” Aylward said. “I want to make sure that they feel supported, and things are done the right way to help them. I want to make sure that visiting teams and their fans have a great experience, as well.”
Korta said if the right candidate and situation presents itself, a full-time AD could be hired to start mid-school year. He also said school administration and the hiring committee will continue to be patient for the best fit.
“We have seen how God provides for our school in so many ways, and trust that He will bring the right person according to His plan,” he said. “In the meantime, we will continue to follow His lead.”
