Trevor Johnson will be the new Activities Director at Pius X High School, the school’s incoming CAO Jeremy Ekeler announced.
Johnson graduated from Pius X in 2010, where he was a member of the boys basketball program, and he’s excited to return to Pius X in an administrator role.
“I owe so much of my own growth to the lessons and faith I received during my time at Pius X, and I’m now fortunate to have the chance to pass those lessons on to the next generation of Thunderbolts,” Johnson said. “Extracurricular activities offer a unique opportunity to impart valuable life skills and help our students develop into leaders who are equipped to face the challenges ahead. Pius has a proud tradition of excellence across all activities and athletics, and I look forward to working alongside the leadership team and coaches to ensure that tradition continues to thrive.”
Ekeler said Johnson fits the qualities the school was looking for as its next activities director.
“We’re welcoming a Thunderbolt home!” he said. “Trevor comes to Pius at a pivotal time as we build upon our Thunderbolt legacy of excellence. When you look for an Activities Director you hope to find someone who understands the power of forming young people inside of the activities they love. This is an approach Trevor embraces wholeheartedly. Furthermore, his various coaching and administrative roles in the college setting gives him unique perspective on how we want our students formed for the next level.”
This spring, Johnson finished his sixth season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Buena Vista University (Iowa), where he also served as an Assistant Director of Athletic Performance since 2021, and Assistant Director of Athletics since 2023. In 2020, he named to the Top 30 Under 30 list of coaches by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for men’s basketball at Johns Hopkins University, and previously served in the same role at his alma mater, Nebraska Wesleyan University, where he was a member of the 2018 Division III National Championship team. He served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for three sports at Nebraska Wesleyan, and was also an Assistant to the Athletic Director/Facilities Director in 2015-16.
As a college athlete, Johnson was a four-year starter for the Nebraska Wesleyan men’s basketball team, earning First-Team All-Conference and Honorable Mention NAIA All-American honors his senior year. He scored over 1,000 career points and was a two-time Academic All-American, among other honors. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan in 2014 with a degree in Biology, and earned his Masters Degree in Management from Doane University in 2017.
“This is also a time to thank Coach Tim Aylward for stepping into the role on an interim basis,” Ekeler said. “He’s going to be a tremendous mentor to Trevor as we hand off our Bolt legacy of excellence in all of our activities.”
