The Boys Cross Country team at Pius X High School is being honored with the Lincoln Track Club 2024 Distinguished Achievement Award. Below is the LTC write-up about the honor:
If you fall in the middle of the Venn Diagram of people who care about distance running and prep cross-country results and Nebraska running history (side note, there aren’t many of us, you should go to the Nebraska School Activities Association cross country page. Click on state championship history and you will find yourself in a very specific trivia heaven. There are teams represented on there over DECADES. Crofton girls, Fremont boys, Scottsbluff boys, Lincoln Southeast boys and girls, Lincoln East girls, and one of tonight’s award winners Lincoln Pius X boys’ cross country.
With their win this past fall the Pius boys earned their eleventh state title. It is their first since 2007.
This equals the trophies earned by their girls program. It moves them into 3rd for most team cross country titles across all classes in Nebraska. The program is now second in combined boys’ and girls’ titles. This doesn’t even consider the numerous individuals that have had great success running for the Bolts and then in the years after high school.
Under Coach George O’Boyle and continuing with Coach Bill Rice, the Pius program has been remarkably consistent for going on 40 years. It is remarkable. They are part of a list of schools that have made Lincoln, and the surrounding Lancaster County, a stronghold of prep distance running.
The hard work of the boys over the last two to four years was rewarded by a dominating victory in the Class B cross country championships. They did so in a way that positively represented what running is all about.
We would like to recognize these efforts with the Lincoln Track Club 2024 Distinguished Achievement Award. Congratulations to the Lincoln Pius X Boys Cross Country team, their coaches, and their families.
