Adam McCabe Memorial Scholarship for Kindness

Thanks to the generosity of Adam McCabe’s family and friends, a scholarship has been established in the Pius X Foundation in his memory. Adam McCabe, a 2005 alumnus of Pius X High School, has left behind a legacy that will benefit Pius X students for years to come.

Adam, son of Pat and Beth McCabe, and brother to Kevin, Leo, Maggie, Madeleine, Timmy and Joey, attended St. Teresa’s, Cathedral, St. Joseph’s and then Pius X. Adam attended UNL and then Southeast Community College. He was working for Midwest Tile, Marble, and Granite, Inc. in Oklahoma City when he passed away in a work related accident.

Adam died happy in Oklahoma City. He was always a Husker fan and never that of an Oklahoma Sooner. He will always be remembered for being such a gentleman, his kindness and love for life. He was a Purdue fan, an avid soccer fan, pet lover, a good and loyal friend and a wonderful, loving, big brother.

His kindness is what attracted many people to him, which is why this memorial scholarship has been named in his honor. Students who wish to be considered eligible for the Adam McCabe Memorial Scholarship for Kindness will have displayed a significant act of kindness.

Adam is missed dearly every day, especially his curly hair and smile. His family would like to thank all of the benefactors who contribute to the scholarship in Adam’s name.

Excerpts from student thank you letters

Past awardees share how receiving the scholarship made an impact in their lives:

“Thank you for the generous scholarship. This scholarship will help me and my family a lot. I have four brothers, one sister, and another sibling [soon to be born]. This scholarship will help us to be able to afford my tuition to Pius this year…My favorite subjects are Spanish and Theology. My favorite thing to do at Pius is Wrestling….After I graduate from Pius I would like to be in the military and afterwards attend the Police Academy so that I can become a Police Officer. I am grateful to attend Pius X High school…I get to learn about Catholicism and I really like the teachers here at Pius. Thank you for helping my family and I by granting me this scholarship.”

“I am the second of eight children in my family…I have been playing the flute since fifth grade and love music. During the fall, I participate in color guard for the marching band. I love reading, sewing, and hanging out with my friends and family. My favorite parts of school are Band, English, and Math. I recently started working [at a fast food restaurant] and enjoy doing my part there. I hope to someday attend Benedictine College and study education….I would like to thank you for your generosity. My experiences at school would not be the same without your support. Being able to attend a Catholic high school means so much to me, and it means even more to me that people like you are the reason I can return to Pius each year. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You truly helped my family and me.”

“This scholarship has helped me internally. To see a smile on my mom’s face speaks a million words my heart could never say. I’ve struggled the past years not knowing if I’m good enough or if I could be doing better as a person. To receive the [scholarship award] letter made every moment or difficulty in my life worth it. Just to hear my mom say, “I am proud of you.” It will always repeat inside my head. This scholarship makes me even more determined to put myself out there and be a bigger person to set an example for others. It also helps because with 4 boys [of 6 brothers] still in our household, I am one less money situation to worry about. They can focus on the others and provide us with what we need as a family.”
