After 32 years as the director of guidance at Pius X High School, Jan Frayser is often referred to as “the heart” of the school. Frayser earned a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College with endorsements in theatre, music and speech. She then received a master’s degree in Secondary School Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado, which led to her hiring as the director of guidance in 1987.
Jan has been the driving force behind many significant programs and improvements over the years, including the establishment of the Acquiring and Building Learning Excellence (ABLE) program for learners who benefit from extra assistance, the Ambassadors program which aims to recruit and empower student advocates for peers who are most vulnerable, and the TLC program, which provides targeted assistance to failing students. Jan has served on crisis response teams for schools in the Lincoln Diocese, and is part of the city-wide suicide prevention coalition.
The Jan Frayser Endowed Fund was created to support the Pius X Guidance Office activities in perpetuity. Yearly distributions will benefit, as examples only, Ambassador program, Guest speakers, High School recruitment efforts, Purchase of necessary materials for the office, and more.
