David Easley ’98 is being inducted into the 2024 Pius X Athletics Hall of Fame. As the 11th of 12 children of George ’57 and Joanne Easley to attend Pius X and participate in athletics, David Easley developed a desire for competition and a love for the Thunderbolts at a young age. “I basically grew up at Pius watching my brothers and sisters compete in football, volleyball and basketball and that really instilled my desire to become a Thunderbolt and compete in sports.” That competitive edge led to Easley having an outstanding athletic career in football, basketball, and golf while at Pius X High School.
Easley was part of the most dominant stretch in Pius X football history. The three years he played varsity, the Bolts went 33 – 2 and won two state championships. He was a two-year starter at QB and led the Thunderbolts to the 1997 State Championship his senior season. He earned first team All-State honors and left Pius X as the career leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
David played varsity basketball for two years and was a starter on the 1998 State Runner Up team and earned All-City honors. In golf he was a four-year varsity competitor, played in the State Tournament three times, and was a two-time All-City selection.
Easley then attended Nebraska Wesleyan University to play football. His football career was cut short, though, after a knee injury his freshmen year. That injury led to him turning his focus to golf. David then became one of the best amateur golfers in the state of Nebraska and nationally. He was an All-American his senior year at NWU, won the Lincoln City Championship four times, took the tile for the 2021 Nebraska State Amateur, and qualified for multiple USGA Championships.
David Easley: “I could not have been more fortunate to have the experience I had while at Pius. The relationships I developed with my teammates and coaches and the life lessons I learned have had an incredibly positive impact on my life, and for that I am truly grateful.” David and his wife, Bridget (Divis) ’99, live in Lincoln and their oldest son is currently attending Pius X, continuing the family’s multi-generation Thunderbolt tradition.
