THUNDERBOLT 'FOODIES'

Kim Codr-Stockman ’89

First Food Job: I was a dietary aide and cook at Village Manor Nursing Home.
Current Food Job/Hustle/Passion: I am the owner and operator of the first Smoothie King in Nebraska, located on 51st and “O” Street. We have been open for 7 years and serve a wide variety of smoothies for every health need. It has been such a joy having the ability to work for myself and for my dream to be supported by the community.
Food Memories: I will always remember my grandmothers’ cooking in their kitchens for hours to ensure each family member had their favorite dish on the table for the holiday. I come from a large family of Czech cooks who love to bake, eat, and share. My grandmothers always taught me to over cook, because I guess there was a fear that everyone wouldn’t have enough to eat. This meant making 10 side dishes and every type of potato to so that everyone had their fill. In reality, we actually end up sending containers of food home with everyone which makes leftovers such a treat!
Pius X Memories: When I attended Pius, we had little to no lunchroom, with a few microwaves, and some vending machines. I remember that administration would bring in different vendors each week for the students to get a hot meal. The one that had the longest line by far was Valentino’s. It was always the highlight of the week and a hit with every student.

We started in the restaurant business when I was about 8 years old, but my favorite meals were when we all got together on Sundays after church.

“I grew up always interested in food and wanting to create my own “recipe” for things.”
