THUNDERBOLT 'FOODIES'

How did your family come to working together at Firehouse Subs? My father (shown in the picture) had been working as the vice president of Village Inn for 35 years when my mother came down with breast cancer. He immediately retired to be with her during treatment. While she was getting her treatments, she told my father to get a job because he was driving her insane, haha. He remembered Firehouse Subs from a visit he took to Florida for work, and since the Firehouse Subs in Lincoln went out, the opportunity was presented to us. Now we’ve been going strong for two and a half years and plan to open two more in Lincoln.

What is like to work with your family nearly every day? Honestly working with family is my favorite part of the job! I have always looked up to my father and how he works, and have always wanted to work with him. It is also fun working with my brother, we do bicker but we also have a lot of fun.

What is important to you about running a family restaurant that people enjoy? Honestly what I love is hearing what people say about us. When I am working and someone comes up to me to talk about what a good job we do and how awesome it is that we are all working together, it makes me feel proud to work here.

What do you remember about Pius X that still has an impact on you today? I really loved the feeling of family there. One big thing I remember is when the Hard as Nails Ministry came in and had that deep conversation with all of us. It really impacted me and I remember running to my friends and crying and just being so thankful that I was there.

It has been such a joy having the ability to work for myself and for my dream to be supported by the community.

We started in the restaurant business when I was about 8 years old, but my favorite meals were when we all got together on Sundays after church.
