Alumni Educator Profile
Christy (Kobza) Kruger
Class of 2005
Grade/Subject/Position: K-8th Physical Education at St. Michael Catholic School
Lincoln, NE
When I realized/discovered I wanted to be a teacher: I had always wanted to a job where could help people. I had ideas to go into medical, counseling etc, but those thoughts didn’t go very far. Naturally, I love sports and being active and thought, why not put that together with helping people, in this case, children.
School memories that impacted how/why I teach: As soon as I decided to become a teacher, I knew I wanted to be in the Catholic school system. I went to Blessed Sacrament, St. Peters, and Pius for my schooling and having the faith along with the education was a key part in my becoming who I am today. I knew I wanted to be in a system where I could freely share my faith with others and help my students on their journey to Heaven.
The impact of my students on me: Being a teacher and a coach has impacted me in ways I can’t describe. These students bring smiles, laughter, and a love for God that is very special. There is something amazing about watching them use their God-given gifts and talents for those around them. I enjoy watching students learn how to skip, catch a ball, or simply enjoy the everyday activities that we take for granted.
Family Update: Mike Kruger (’03) and I have two children: McKinley (8) and Cohen (6)
Hobbies & Activities: I am the head coach for the Pius X Softball Team.
Personal Achievement: Personally, becoming a mother and a coach, for the same softball team I played for, are my greatest achievements. Professionally, my greatest achievements would be graduating college to become a teacher and later getting my Masters Degree in Physical Education.
My memories of Pius X: Most of my favorite memories from Pius would include my days with the softball team and the numerous friends I made along the way. I enjoyed going to the dances, sporting events, retreats, being a part of different clubs, and having some great teachers along the way. I truly enjoyed high school!
