Married June 2005
The Story:
Kathy and Michael met in the second grade at St. Joseph elementary school in Lincoln. They started dating as seniors at Pius X. After their freshman year of college, they broke up. Michael entered St. Gregory the Great seminary for three years. Kathy remained at UNL for one more year before spending two years in formation with the School Sisters of Christ the King. Michael discerned out of the seminary after graduating in 2003. Unbeknownst to each other, Kathy discerned out of formation around the same time. They reconnected the following summer. In 2004, they engaged to be married. They married in 2005. Since then, they have welcomed 5 children. Kathy teaches at the very school where they met. They will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary in 2025, the same year their oldest child will graduate from Pius X.
We had half our classes together. Kathy asked Michael out on a date. We ate dinner at Grisanti’s then went to East Park for a movie.
Pius X Impact:
We have so many common experiences and friendships spanning over 30 years. We cherish these shared memories.
Life Update:
Kathy has numerous hobbies. She competed on the speech team at Pius X and at UNL. She now coaches the Pius X speech team which includes their son, Andrew. Kathy is the Literature teacher at the St. Joseph junior high. She has taught two of her children so far. Michael is a Registered Nurse and works at TELCOR. He teaches OCIA at St. Joseph, gives maturation talks to 5th grade boys at some of the area Catholic schools, and helps lead father-son retreats in the Diocese of Lincoln. John is 18. He plays trombone in the marching band, jazz band, and Lincoln Youth Symphony. He will study music education at Doane University next year. Andrew is 17. He sings in Pius X choirs, competes on the Speech team where he has been a state and national qualifier in Extemporaneous Speaking, and is involved in the theater department. Joseph is 13. An avid athlete, he plays basketball through St. Joseph and Supreme. Blaighn is 10; he is receives Confirmation this year. Zelie is 8 and receives First Reconciliation and Holy Communion this year. Blaighn is a purple belt in Taekwondo. Zelie is a blue belt in Taekwondo. Michael is a first-degree black belt in Taekwondo.
