The Pius X varsity volleyball team competed at the first day of districts against Omaha Burke last night. They won all three sets and will continue on to districts day two on Wednesday.
Junior Faith Venable recently committed to the University of Omaha to further continue her academic and athletic career.
“Our team’s goal for this season was to make it to state, and it has been our goal since the beginning,” Venable said. “My personal goal was to grow as a better person through playing volleyball.”
Venable is proud of her continuous leadership skills as an upperclassman, on and off the court, this year.
Junior Emilia Reiling is wanting to break a school volleyball record for setting by next season.
“Our team motto for this season has been ‘All in’ as our ending goal is to make it to state,” Reiling said.
Reiling has been preparing for competing at districts by listening to music in the locker room with her teammates and taking deep breaths before stepping foot onto the court.
Senior Kaylee Weigel is most proud of becoming a better player and teammate this season. She prepared for day one of districts by watching the film of their previous games to see how they can win against their competition.
“Just getting 1% better every day is something I will always carry with me,” Weigel said. “Controlling your attitude and effort is always just as important. Yes, I want to be great, but sometimes all you can do is just get better.”
