The 2023 Distinguished Stewardship Award is presented to Gregory E. Sutton, MD ’71 and Margaret Kontras Sutton, MD in recognition of their extraordinary generosity in sharing their time, talent, and treasure with Pius X and our community.
Gregory E. Sutton, MD is a 1971 Pius X alumnus, who went to the University of Nebraska Lincoln and then University of Nebraska Medical Center. Additional training occurred at the University of Iowa, Stanford University, Savannah Georgia and Nanjing China. He married Margaret Kontras, MD in 1981 and returned to Lincoln, Nebraska where he co-founded Eye Surgical Associates and remains its managing partner. With Margaret Kontras Sutton and three other partners he founded Lincoln Surgical Hospital where he remains the managing partner and board member. He shared his talents with Pius X Foundation as a member of the Board of Directors from 1988-2001.
Margaret Kontras Sutton, MD is a native Lincoln-ite who graduated from East High School and went on to UNL to major in music. She then went to UNMC for her medical degree and her eventual training as a dermatologist. Upon returning to Lincoln she started Sutton Dermatology and Aesthetics, which now includes two of her three daughters as physician partners. Margaret Kontras Sutton, MD was also one of the original 5 founders of Lincoln Surgical Hospital and remains an active board member. All three of Greg and Margaret’s daughters graduated from Pius X: Leigh Sutton, MD, 2004, Stephanie Sutton, MD, 2006 and Elizabeth Sutton, MD, 2008.
