Pius X recently ended their construction project in the east parking lot.
“The story begins several years ago,” Chief Administrative Officer Tom Korta said. “When we built the classroom addition on the west side of the school, we needed to increase our parking capacity on the east side to make up for the lost parking spaces.”
The school applied for a temporary permit and it was granted by the city of Lincoln.
“The temporary permit was set to expire, so we had to move forward on paving the east lot,” Korta said. “Our master facility plan called for a link between the two parking lots so that delivery trucks could pull in, drop the products off for the kitchen, and then pull out again without having to back all the way up toward A Street.”
The school faced a setback in the beginning, though.
“When we began the project, we didn’t have enough money to make all of the improvements and add the link, so we cut that portion out of the project,” Korta said.
In September, the school received money to help complete the project.
“The final step, creating the link between the two parking lots, began on October 25 and was completed just before
Christmas,” Korta said. “We wanted to have it completed before the snow and ice started.”
Senior Aden Armstrong had his parking spot moved because of construction work by his parking spot.
“They called me to the office and had me temporarily moved to a spot by the football field,” Armstrong said.
