When I realized/discovered I wanted to be a teacher: I was receiving extra help from Mrs. Sander on a paper for English class. It made me realize that I wanted to be there for students that struggle and push them to achieve what they saw impossible.
School memories that impacted how/why I teach: I will never forget the teachers that took the time before school to work with me. Also, the way the teachers made you feel that you mattered. They did this by getting to know you and taking an interest in what you were involved in. In my classroom I make an extra effort to get to know my students and what activities they are involved in.
The impact of my students on me: Working with students brings me joy. I love the feeling I get when a student gets a new concept or skill. The look on there face of achievement just brightens my day. Seeing moments like that never get old.
Family Update: Wife: Jennifer Wilkerson; children: Evalyn (6) & Lauren (2) Wilkerson
Hobbies & Activities: Reading, Coaching daughters sports, woodworking, traveling
Personal Achievement: Personally would be my two wonderful daughters. Professionally would be being on a coaching staff that help the girls win a basketball state championship, becoming a Head boys basketball coach, and helping educated some amazing students over the past 14 years.
My memories of Pius X: I will never forget my freshman year our boys basketball team won the State Championship. Being a manager the following two years for boys basketball and making it to the State tournament. Playing football was a lot of fun. Being in the musical Pirates of Penzance. It is hard to pick a memory of from my classes. Between Mr. Kelly’s class, Mrs. Sander’s class discussing Romeo and Juliet, to Physics Rube Goldberg project.
