A story of a triathlon and a teacher, in Latin

Latin I students researched Roman sports for a class assignment in the Latin language. Teacher Mike Katalenich had the students write a story, which happened to include the teacher himself.

Here are the students’ reports, in Latin:

                Est diēs frīgidus in mēnse octōbrī multō cum ventō. Est triathlon. Prīmum certāmen est cursus. Magister Katalenich “Parātī! Probī! Īte!” ad athlētās dīcit. Athlētae eunt ab initiō cōnō ad extrēmum cōnum et iterum ad initium cōnum. Volesus Robertius prīmā in positiōne, Opiter Fiālus in secundā positiōne, et Maximus Cricius in positiōne tertiā veniunt. Lūcius Bellius in cursū terram bis ēst.

                Proximum certāmen est discus. Iacit discum tam procul quam possibile athlēta, sed nōn iacit discum in terram. Prīmā Maximus Cricius in positiōne, Volesus Robertius in secundā positiōne, et Vopiscus Holtius est cucurbita in tertiā positiōne. Quis est haec sīmia?

                Ultimum certāmen est trochus. Athlēta ūnus vertit trochum alter athlēta iacit pīlam per trochum tam procul quam possibile. Quī distantiā maximā pīlam per trochum iacit superat. Lūcius Bellius Vopiscusque Holtius prīmā in positiōne, Volesus Robertius Maximusque Rōtafex in positiōne secundā, et Mettia Fixa Māniaque Stōx in positiōne tertiā veniunt.
