When I realized/discovered I wanted to be a teacher: Before working in higher education, I was a 6th grade teacher for three years. I initially realized that I wanted to pursue education while working as a summer camp counselor. Playing dodgeball, going camping, taking the kiddos on field trips, and honestly, just having fun with kids, drew me to pursue education as a course of study in college. Obviously, summer camp isn’t like working in a classroom, or in an academic setting, but the love of kids, left no doubt in my mind that I wanted to work in education so that I could have a positive impact on people’s future.
School memories that impacted how/why I teach: I remember how I looked at my teachers as role models and positive influences on my life. In addition, it always seemed like my teachers were having fun and loving what they do for “work”. With this in mind, I do my best to enjoy my time with my students, while working to be a positive influence on their life both now, and upon graduation.
The impact of my students on me: Working with students has given me a purpose in life. At the end of the day, I want nothing more than for my students to graduate, and reach their life goals. It’s my job to lend a tiny hand, in guiding them on their journey.
Family Update: I’m engaged to be married to lovely fiancée, Allison, in June, 2022.
Hobbies & Activities: I’m a sports guy, hence my current role. Whether it be watching or playing adult league sports, I’m in. Honestly, competition in general beyond just sports (Cards, board games, poker, etc.). My current off-the-wall interest, I love Curling.
Personal Achievement: Personally, without a doubt, becoming engaged to be married. Professionally, having my career come full circle, and being able to work in college athletics in my home state of Nebraska. I’ve worked all over the country within college sports, so being at Creighton after jumping around, is an absolute blessing. Educationally, I’ve earned a Master’s Degree, and am currently working on my second.
My memories of Pius X: I remember Pius is where I had magical moments, that have lasted a lifetime. In those moments, friendships solidified that are essential to my well-being still today. People became more than friends, they became family. Still to this day, I couldn’t ask for a better group of humans to have in my life (They know who they are).
