The ThunderBOLT Fun Run Endowment was established in 2014 with funds raised from sponsorships of and participation in Pius X’s annual Fun Run event.
Each year, the annual disbursement from the endowment provides special funding to a Pius X academic department or a school sponsored club or activity. To apply, the department or club/activity leader writes a short essay describing their purpose or activity, how the funds will be used, and how the award will impact Pius X and its students.
The idea of a ThunderBOLT Fun Run began in 2010. The first Alumni and Friends of Pius X Family Fun Run took place on August 27, 2011. With the first run being held around the Pius X neighborhood, the event was moved the following year to Holmes Lake Park.
The Fun Run has since become an annual event under the name of the ThunderBOLT Fun Run. Including both a 1 mile run/walk and a 5K, the ThunderBOLT Fun Run is a family friendly event which has continued to grow with alumni, parents, students, children and friends of Pius X of all ages and skill level participating.
Founding members of the ThunderBOLT Fun Run committee involved in the establishment of this endowment include: Pius X Alumni Director Kristin (Edwards) Heath ’91, Bob Duden ’83, Kara Foster ’88, Lori (Lieb) Morin ’96, and Shawna (Arroyo) Schroer ’96. The ThunderBOLT Fun Run committee is pleased to establish this endowment and give back to the clubs, activities, faculty, staff, and students of Pius X High School.
