The Pius X varsity boys basketball team played their first Class B subdistrict game against the Waverly Vikings on Thursday, Feb. 27 at home. Pius X won 66-26 ending the Vikings’ 2025 basketball season.
“I think they played great,” head coach Adam Brill said. “I think they played inspired. I think they played tough.”
Brill felt that Pius X played well as a team both while on defense and on offense.
“I thought defensively our effort was outstanding,” Brill said. “Offensively, we shared it really well. I was really proud of the guys, their approach to it, and our overall effort and togetherness the whole night.”
The boys had two weeks between their last basketball game and this one. They had a longer time to prepare for their next games than usual, so their preparation and practices looked a bit different.
“We had weeks of practice leading up to this one,” senior Kolbe Volkmer said. “We spent the last few days on Waverly and the previous week we spent almost entirely on Norris.”
The varsity boys will play the Norris Titans on Friday, Feb. 28 at Norris.
The win against the Vikings has been helpful as they get ready to play the Titans for the second time.
“I think it’s a good confidence booster going up against Norris,” senior Cole Randall said.
