The Pius X Thunderbolts girls basketball team faced the Standing Bear Grizzles for the first time at the sub-district game on Tuesday.
“We had never played this team before so I was not really sure what to expect from them as a team,” sophomore Josie McCabe said.
The Thunderbolts led from the start, with important shots made by junior Ava Markowski.
“Making good shots earlier on was beneficial because it made the game easier to win,” Markowski said.
By the end of the first half, the Thunderbolts led by 38 points.
While the basketball team was taking a break during halftime, the Thunderettes performed their state dance.
“Getting to do this dance one last time after we competed was so fun but also kind of bittersweet,” sophomore Ella Schenk said.
Starting the second half, the cheer team was loud and energetic on the sidelines.
“Cheering at this game was so fun because I got to be around my teammates and cheer for the basketball team as they won,” junior Elaine Ho said.
This energy carried on throughout the game and the Thunderbolts beat the Grizzles with a final score of 60-15.
The Thunderbolts will play Norris in the sub-district final on Feb. 26 at Pius X.
