Freshmen display literary learning through tableaux

From Dec. 11-13, groups of freshmen students in Jennifer Sander’s English I classes have been performing a tableaux over different books they read in the class.

A tableaux is a series of motionless, silent freeze frames taken from a reading.

Sander likes seeing all the groups combine their efforts and figure out how to present the tableaux.

“I also really enjoy watching kids work together, like the dynamics of how are we going to put this all together and learn to treat everyone with respect,” Sander said.

Sander mentioned that the tableaux this year have been great.

“So far really good,” Sander said. “They’ve been really enjoyable.”

Freshman Ellie Andres read the book “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” by Mitch Albom. Andres enjoyed being able to present the information she learned in a fun way.

“I liked the tableaux because it was a fun way to show what we learned from the book,” Andres said.

Freshman Huyen Tran read the book “Mississippi Trial, 1955” by Chris Crowe. She liked acting out the tableaux and watching other groups act too.

“My favorite part was probably presenting because it was fun,” Tran said. “I also liked watching the other groups present too.”
