The Pius X swim team hosted an intrasquad meet at Lincoln Southeast on December 7.
Parents were invited to a new parent meeting and afterwards were invited to help time the swimmers’ events.
“We wanted to give the new parents a chance to learn what their child is going to be a part of this season,” head coach Jeanette Keller said.
As the swim team is under new management this year, Keller and co-coach Ava Heasty have decided to implement this style of meet.
“I think it is really helpful to see where all the swimmers are at and see what we need to work on,” Heasty said.
Each swimmer was asked to swim 50 meters in each stroke and be a part of a mixed relay team.
“I didn’t know any of the people on my relay before and now I’ve gotten to know a few more of my teammates,” varsity boys captain junior Sam Huck said.
Overall, the intrasquad meet was well liked by an array of swimmers including the captains of the team.
“It really helped us improve our starts and just a basic understanding of how the meet works for newcomers,” varsity boys captain junior Ben Springer said. “It will hopefully prepare us for the upcoming meet.”
The first swim meet of the season is Thursday, Dec. 14 at the Beatrice Family YMCA.
