Junior high voices fill LPAC for annual honor choir

Middle school choir students from feeder schools came to Pius X on Friday, Nov. 8 to practice and perform.

The event was the annual junior high honor choir performance that is held around Veterans’ Day.

“It was a chance for them to sing quality literature with other students who are equally excited about investing their musicianship,” choir teacher Shani Sorensen said.

The junior high students arrived at Pius X around noon and began practicing in the LPAC at 12:30 p.m. They practiced for several hours before their performance at 7 p.m.

“Today was the only time they met as a group,” show choir director Edgar Estrada said. “They did a lot of work outside of the rehearsal but today was the only day they were all together with the directors and high schoolers.”

A total of around 85 younger students came together and performed various songs for their families and Pius X students.

At the end of the concert, members of the Pius X choir sang “Let Freedom Ring” and “Ave Maria” with the kids.

“The purpose was to encourage younger students who are in junior high choir to keep doing it up in high school,” Estrada said. “We had a full house tonight and it was a success, the kids ended up putting on a really good performance even with the higher-level music they were given.”
