The Pius X mock trial team had the first practice trial of the season on Wednesday.
“I was excited to watch a practice trial because it is my first year and I did not know what to expect going into it,” junior Maddie Bixenmann said.
The team practiced in a courtroom at the University of Nebraska College of Law.
“I love practicing in a real courtroom because it makes the trial feel so real,” senior Isabel Buss said.
The team practiced for three hours doing opening statements, cross-examination statements, direct statements and closing statements.
“Doing all the parts of the trial in a practice round is super helpful because it gets the team well prepared for real competition,” Buss said.
All members on the team are either a lawyer, witness or timekeeper.
“I like being a timekeeper because I get to still be apart of the trial, but I get to enjoy watching the entire thing and not doing a lot of work,” Bixenmann said.
