The Passport to Adventure Club held a meeting at Afghan Village Cuisine, a small Halal restaurant located off O Street, on Oct. 3.
Shiela Sievert, AP Human Geography teacher, has enjoyed sponsoring this club for the last ten years.
“I wanted a fun way to introduce students to geography and to learn more about culture because of all the conflict in the world,” Sievert said. “It is important that people learn about other cultures and realize that we are the same.”
Passport to Adventure Club is a fantastic way to learn about diverse cultures and experience some different foods they eat daily.
“Our first ethnic place this year it had been a real adventure,” sophomore co-president Kaitlyn Giles said. “Afghan Village was not only delicious but truly insightful as the owner shared how his restaurant came to be. It was truly inspiring.”
In Afghanistan they do not own chairs or a table to sit around. They sit down on a rug without shoes and eat with each other. They also eat a light meal at dinnertime around 9 p.m.
“I loved it because the food was delicious,” sophomore co-president Isaac Baehr said. “It made a good adventure into new pallets of food. It opened our views of the world, and it is a good place to hang out and it was amazing we got to experience the rug.”
