Tom Seib

Tom Seib is being inducted into the 2024 Pius X Athletics Hall of Fame. An award-winning educator, coach, and administrator, Tom Seib dedicated an extraordinary 46 years of service to Nebraska Catholic schools, including 36 years at Pius X High School. Tom Seib came to Nebraska from Hays, Kansas in 1974 to begin his coaching and teaching career at St. Joseph’s School in York, Nebraska. Tom was hired by Monsignor Liam Barr at Pius X High School in 1984 as a Social Studies and English teacher and Freshman Football and JV Basketball coach. He became the head Basketball coach in 1986, and also served as head coach for Boys Golf from 1992-1996 and 2008-2019, and as head Boys Tennis coach from 1987-1990.  In addition to his coaching service, Tom also served as Social Studies department chair, National Honor Society advisor, Student Council sponsor, and Model United Nations advisor.

During his time as head basketball coach, Tom compiled a record of 149-38 and his teams qualified for six straight State Tournaments, playing in four State Championships and winning one State championship and State Runner-up three consecutive times. In Tennis, his teams won State Runner-up three consecutive times, and he also led the Golf team to win State Runner-up.

During his coaching career, Seib was honored as the Nebraska State Coach of the Year in 1992 by the Lincoln Journal Star, and the KFOR State High School Coach of the Year. He was also named the Nebraska Basketball Development Association Coach in 1988 and served on the Mr. Nebraska Basketball Committee from 1988-1994.

In 1992, Tom accepted a position as Pius X’s assistant principal while also continuing to mentor students as National Honor Society advisor and Advanced Placement program chair, as well as serving on city planning and state education standards committees. In 1997, Seib became the 10th principal of Pius X High School, serving in that role until 2007. He then finished his career at Pius X back in the classroom, teaching from 2008-2020, and coaching the Boys Golf team from 2008-2019.
