Anna (Schrad) Zajicek ’00
Anna (Schrad) Zajicek ’00 is being inducted into the 2024 Pius X Athletics Hall of Fame. Anna was a member of the Pius X High School Volleyball and Track teams. For Volleyball she was a three-year varsity starter and letter winner, and a three-time All-City and All-State selection. Anna was a State Championship team member in 1998 and 1999. In 1999 she was selected as Gatorade Nebraska Volleyball Player of the Year, and as first-team Volleyball Magazine All-American. Throughout her Thunderbolt Volleyball career, she made 1,052 kills, 182 blocks, 108 service aces and 571 digs. During high school she was also named Huskerland Prep Report Miss Volleyball. She was a three-time all-city volleyball selection, and played for the Nebraska Juniors club team. Anna was a three-time All-American and led her team to ninth-, fifth- and third-place national finishes. A two-time captain of the USA Youth National Team, she led her team to the 1998 [EM1] NORCECA Zonal Championship and 6th place finish at 1999 World Championships, and was the 6th best scorer at the 1999 World Championship tournament. Anna was a one-year letter winner for Varsity Track and Field. She was a member of state qualifying 4×400 relay, and in 1998 she made a school record 59.73 seconds in the Class A 400m dash with a 6th place finish. Anna graduated from Pius X in 2000 with a 4.0 GPA and was a two-time academic all-state selection, and was also honored as the 1998 Chemistry Student of the Year and 1999 French Student of the Year.
Anna continued her athletic career in college, attending University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and was a three-year starter and a four-year letter winner in Volleyball. She was a 2000 National Champion, and played on the 2001 USA Junior National Team, named Best Server at the World Championship Qualifier. She served as captain in 2003, and was named 2003 Academic All American. She earned her degree in Exercise Science at UNL, and completed her MD at University of Nebraska Medical Center, graduating with high honors in 2009. She completed her Radiology Residency at UNMC in 2014, and is currently an Associate Professor of Radiology at UNMC. Anna has been married to her husband, Ben Zajicek, for 19 years. Their three children are Madison, Broc and Vivian.
