Real wounds, and learning, in this gory lesson

NOTE: Some of these images may be disturbing to the eye. No students were harmed during this school lab lesson. Using dye, glue, tissue, coffee grounds and various other materials, Jenna Steenson’s Anatomy & Physiology class were creating some very realistic wounds, just in time for Halloween!

Anatomy classes create ghoulish wounds for Halloween

Anatomy and Physiology classes created fake wounds on Halloween. The Anatomy and Physiology students completed the lab activity to better their understanding of the integumentary system. “The whole purpose of this project is to learn about the different types of wounds and burns, and to study how they heal,” Anatomy and Physiology teacher Jenna Steenson

Emily Pick ’16

Emily Pick ’16 and Ben Sidner were married August 26th at the Newman Center in Lincoln. Both work at ConAgra Foods, in Omaha, where Emily is an Internal Auditor and Ben is a Research Microbiologist. They live in Omaha.

The skin and how it heals, in Anatomy class

Anatomy & Physiology students are learning all about the integumentary system (the skin) and how it heals. Teacher Jenna Steenson invited Christopher Darst, who works in cardiothoracic surgery as a PA at the Nebraska Heart Hospital. Sharing his knowledge, Darst showed students how to apply different types of sutures, as well as share stories and pictures
