Resolve to read, from Pius X Librarian Erin Willis

As parents, you have the ability to guide and support daily habits of your kids. The New Year is an opportunity to recommit to healthy habits for the body, mind and spirit.

Maybe your family’s goals are to eat healthier, reduce screen time, pray more often, or spend more time together. You might also consider a resolution that will develop your mind and support better relationships: Read more books!

Incorporating reading into your daily routine has plenty of benefits for your overall well-being. Reading has been scientifically proven to improve brain function, and it can help you understand and empathize with others.

The Pius X Library is here to support our students’ reading goals for the New Year. Encourage your child to make a resolution to visit the library this year!

Perhaps most important of all, your own passion for reading can have a powerful impact on your children. Exposure and access to books is the most effective tool in helping kids develop reading habits.

If personal reading isn’t a part of your everyday life, resolving to carve out even a little bit of time to read may be the trick to rediscovering the joys of reading while helping you better connect with your kids at the same time. This is a time consuming commitment, and resolutions are tough to stick to anyway, but the Pius X Library would like to help!

We’ve researched all the best tips to get our students reading this year, and to help them become lifelong readers. The library can inform students about books, recommend books, talk about books and send books home with them to read. We have thousands of titles available on site, and if we don’t have what you are looking for, we can access almost any book from our partner organizations.
